Lot Essay

Philadelphia merchant Edward Thomson (1771-1853) married Ann Renshaw in 1796. He had a thriving business, sending many ships to China, until the 1825-26 bust in tea. See J.G. Lee, Philadelphians and the China Trade, pp. 152-3.
