Although traditionally known as 'Governor Duff', (Diederick Duiver, the Dutch Governor-General of the East India Company from 1729-31), there is little evidence to support this; indeed, mention of such models of 'Dutch families' were listed in cargo sale lists of the British East India Company of 1701, see G. Godden, op. cit., pp. 266 and 270. For similar groups, see D. S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, pp. 248-9, pl. 294, an example in the Hodroff collection; and Howard and Ayers, op. cit., vol. I, p. 94, no. 55, the Mottahedeh example. A very similar group in The British Museum was exhibited in Ancient Chinese Trade Ceramics, Taibei, 1994, catalogue no. 30.
