Lot Essay

The lead-lined cistern, with bas-relief rings sculpted in antique marble fashion and palms flowering its columnar stand, is designed in the robust Grecian fashion promoted by the architect Richard Bridgens and popularised by his Furniture with Candelabra and Interior Decoration, London, 1838.
