Lot Essay

As pointed out by F.K. Nagler, Die Monogrammisten, II, 1863, p.512, no.1326, the artist is perhaps to be identified as David Remeeus, portrait and history painter, working in Antwerp circa 1590-1610, who was the master of Cornelis de Vos. A portrait of Anna Princesse d'Arenberg by the same hand, dated 1597, was sold in these rooms, 2 December 1987, lot 128, with ill.
