A French engraved brass quarter-striking eight day carriage clock with alarm
No.5778. Circa 1860
The gorge case engraved with foliate designs on a matted ground, with side panels engraved with birds, scrolls and trailing flowers also on matted grounds, the rear door with conforming decoration and shuttered winding holes, with gilded and scroll engraved mask to the white enamel Roman chapter disc, blued steel Breguet hands, alarm disc below, the twin barrels movement with silvered platform to cut bimetallic lever balance, with quarter strike/repeat/alarm on two bells with three hammers, the back plate numbered 5778; with probably associated red leather travel case
4 5/8 in. (11.75 cm.) high, handle down
