Lot Essay

Artists such a Benedetto Boschetti (active 1820-1870) worked in Rome catering for the demand in 'antique' sculpture, which was destined for the influx of grand tourists, many of whom were English. A similar bust with bronze head and marble torso of the Emperor Caracalla signed by Boschetti was sold at Christie's London, 13 June 2002, lot 167.
