Lot Essay

The present lot consists of four of the original 25 lengths of paper of the series titled Paysage de Télémaque dans l'Île de Calpyso. The series was inspired by Fénélon's Les Aventures de Télémaque and was first produced circa 1818 (fully illustrated in O. Nouvel-Kammerer, French Scenic Wallpaper, 1795-1865, Paris, 2000, no. 5).
