Lot Essay

The incident depicted above occurred when Mr Cuthbert Lambert of Newcastle was endeavouring to turn his run away horse at full speed whilst crossing Sandiford Stone Bridge, when it leaped the battlements and fell 20 feet into the water below. The horse died as a consequence of the fall but Lambert was providentially caught in the branches of an old ash tree and later rescued
