Meiji period (late 19th century), signed Namiki kan Shobi and kao
Lacquered in polychrome takamaki-e with two long-tailed birds in autumn maple trees, the branch rendered in grey and black lacquer finished in ishime, all against a red-brown ground, the reverse decorated with a Rinpa-style winding stream and falling maple leaves, black-lacquer ishime frame
