Lot Essay

At the suggestion of his friend, the poet e.e. cummings, Hamaguchi Yozo began making mezzotints in Paris in the late 1930s. Fifty years later he honored cummings with a series of twenty color variants of Twenty-two cherries in which each variant corresponds to one of the first twenty lines of cumming's poem, "anyone lived in a pretty how town."

This is a variant of Teien, pl. 126.
