Original cherry muslin backed drab paper boards, printed paper label on spine (spine lightly faded and label worn, boards a bit rubbed and with one or two pale stains); quarter brown morocco gilt slipcase. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION of Sketches by Boz: Second Series. The "first series" having been published the previous year in May 1836 as Watkins Tottle and Other Sketches. The chapter heading is the same recto and verso to p. 21, thereafter "Sketches by Boz" appears on the verso of each of each page. There are blank versos at the end of most stories.
