A VERY RARE MANCHU WOMAN'S PALE LILAC VELVET JACKET, MAGUA
LATE QING DYNASTY
Unusually made from lavender-ground deep purple cut velvet of geometric pattern, within black satin borders edged in gold chevron braid, all richly decorated with various types of ribbons, some incorporating sequins, including the inner-most ribbon applied with pale turquoise silk orchids, with a pocket on the inner flap, the teal-blue silk damask lining woven with flowering branches and bamboo

Lot Essay
The highly decorative and unusual ribbon work imitates American women's dress of the 1880s and 1890s. Some of the ribbons may be of American manufacture.
