Tibeto-Chinese, 15th century
Finely cast seated in dhyanasana over a double-lotus base with beaded rims, wearing a diaphanous dhoti, sash and beaded jewelry, the face with benign expression and the hair pulled into a high chignon secured by a foliate tiara, richly gilt overall

Lot Essay

This must be regarded as a precursor and prototype for the Yongle style. The facial features are more Nepali in style and the treatment of the tiara somewhat softer as compared to the crisply delineated idiom of the Imperial workshops.
