A SEVRES (HARD PASTE) PINK GROUND IMPERIAL PORTRAIT CUP AND SAUCER
CIRCA 1811, RED STENCILLED M.re N.le de Sevres MARKS, INCISED Duin TO CUP AND SAUCER, FURTHER INCISED MARKS
The cup of bombé form with a flared rim and a gilt scroll handle, the front painted with a portrait of Napoleon I by Gerard within an oval gilt-star cartouche flanked, the ground at the sides with a grisaille trireme and a chariot between laurel borders, the interior richly gilt, the underside inscribed Peint par Gerard, d'apres Isabay. in red, the saucer with a grisaille medallion with a lion against two arrows festooned with laurel (star-crack to underside of cup, slight scratching to enamels)
