A GOTHA COFFEE-CAN AND SAUCER
CIRCA 1800, IRON-RED PAINTED K 77 MARKS, INSCRIBED Sew IN BLACK ENAMEL TO CAN, GILT R FLANKED BY TRIANGULAR DOT ORNAMENT, INCISED W (?) TO CAN
The can painted in shades of brown with two cartouches of vases piled with fruits and flowers on column and plinth supports, a third panel of billing doves perched on a plinth, flanked by acanthus scrolls and reserved on a salmon-pink ground, alternating with richly-gilt and tooled neoclassical two-handled vases, the interior richly-gilt, the saucer painted with anthemion, stylised flowerheads and paterae issuing acanthus, within similar borders (some slight wear to gilding)
