Lot Essay

The purpose of the present lot was as a colour sampler from which clients chose their preferred colour from 45 varying available shades. Another example commissioned by the same K. Carpet Co. but of smaller proportions, is illustrated in Murray L. Eiland Jr. and Murray Eiland III, Oriental Carpets, A Complete Guide, New York, 1973, p.77, fig. 54. it has been suggested that K. Carpet Co. was the same as Kazan Carpet Co. who had an office in New York.
