Adult Comedy Action Drama. New York, Berlin, and Zurich: Scalo, 1995.

Quarto (290 x 190mm). 235 full-page colour photographs. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED WITH 22 BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS, AND AUTOGRAPH TEXT AND DRAWINGS. Original blue paper-covered boards; original photo-illustrated dust-jacket; cloth folding box. Provenance: Richard Prince.

FIRST EDITION. A UNIQUE ARTWORK FROM THE COLLECTION OF RICHARD PRINCE. Prince has said that he was motivated to transform this book, by adding photographs, writing and drawing in it, after discovering Jack Smith's The Beautiful Book. A number of the small square photographs certainly echo the spirit of Smith's influential work, without detracting from the highly original quality of Prince's re-mixed book. He also integrates a number of autograph drawings into the printed compositions, as well as the text from some of his 'joke' paintings. "In Adult Comedy Action Drama, Richard Prince, always the classicist, revisits a central concern of art from the beginning of easel painting: the display of constitutive possessions" (101 Books). It is a unique example of the artist's best conceived book, Prince's treatment of which illustrates themes central to his work. 101 Books, pp.274-5; The Open Book, pp.366-67.
