Lot Essay

The bold architectural style of this centre table is typical of early 19th Century Viennese cabinet-work at a period when entrance to the cabinet-makers' guild required the presentation of a furniture design for approval through the Director of the Architecture Faculty of the Academy of Fine Art. The elaborate execution, with fine stylized clover motifs and fine veneer inlays further relates to a etagère, shown in W. Eller, Möbel des Klassizismus, Louis XVI und Empire, München 2002, pl. 472.
