In the Japonisme taste, each centering the initials MRC surmounted by a swan crest in two-tone gilt, within a beaded band of arches and further tooled gilt band, the border with panels of honeycomb punctuated with gilt bird roundels alternate with flowering branches and orchids, the rim pierced with a stylized key-pattern

Lot Essay

It is enticing to speculate that the present plates were made for a member of the Minton Campbell family as evidenced by the RMC monogram, the Minton Campbell connection with the factory and the fact that the Campbell family is recorded as having a swan crest. In 1958 Colin Minton Campbell succeeded his uncle, Herbert Minton, as director of the Minton factory.
