Lot Essay

Like many of his countrymen, Geza Vastagh worked throughout Europe before settling in his homeland. He exhibited at the Paris Salon, and received an honorable mention at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. He is best known as a painter of exotic animals, especially lions and lionesses, and the present work is a typical example of the artist's ability to capture the majesty of these magnificent creatures.
