Lot Essay

George Beare is thought to have trained at the St. Martin's Lane Academy in London, but set up a portrait practice in Salisbury by 1746. An example of his work, a portrait of 'Sir Frederick Evelyn as a boy' can be found in the Salisbury Museum.
