A LATE ROMAN BRONZE STEELYARD BALANCE AND WEIGHT
CIRCA 2ND-4TH CENTURY A.D.
In the form of a rectangular sectioned beam with conical terminals, engraved on three faces with graded divisions and stippled letters, the other face with a stippled inscription, one end of the beam with three attachment rings on different faces with two remaining suspended hooks, two additional hooks suspended on chains from a collar, the counterpoise weight (lead core missing) in the form of an Artemis bust suspended from a short moveable chain
Beam: 16 3/8 in. (41.5 cm.) long, bust: 3 1/8 in. (8 cm.) high
