II. (Contemporary ink note to folding plate, occasional light spotting, chip to Z2 in Vol. I, tiny hole to 4B2 in vol. II, neither affecting text.) Contemporary calf, spine with red morocco gilt labels, FFF stamp at foot (lower cover of vol. II stained, spines expertly repaired). Provenance: Francis Ferrand Foljambe (binding).
FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the London and Edinburgh imprint. Sabin does not call for a folding plate, although calling for a portrait and a plate in the second issue with Dublin imprint. Sabin 71973.
With two other books, Andrew Burnaby's Travels through the Middle Settlements in North-America, in the years 1759 and 1760 (London: 1775). Sabin 9359 (calling for plates and a map of New York, not present in this copy); and Thomas Hutchinson's The History of the Colony of Massachusset's Bay (London: 1765), a reissue of the second edition with cancel title (without 4 of the 6 unnumbered preliminary pages called for by Sabin and ESTC, binding worn).
