3 parts in one, 2° (340 x 212mm). With final blank leaf, black letter and Anglo-Saxon, roman and italic types. Title printed in red and black. Engraved frontispiece author portrait and 44 engravings by Wenceslas Hollar, consisting of one large folding, 11 double-page, 30 full-page and one half-page text engravings, one full-page plate, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces. (Light dampstain at beginning, neat repaired tear in folding plate, 3 plates shaved just into plate mark or reinforced at guard.) Contemporary blind-ruled calf (rebacked, corners repaired, some wear to spine). Provenance: J. Hewett (title inscription) -- Francis Ferrand Foljambe (title stamp).

FIRST EDITION of an important record of St. Paul's Cathedral before it was destroyed in the Great Fire. The first is the only edition to contain the finest impressions and full complement of Hollar's engravings. Pforzheimer 341; Wing D-2482.
