CIRCA 1900, MANGANESE F WITHIN A STAR MARK
The central medallion finely painted by A. Farini with 'Leda and the Swan' beside a lake in a wooded landscape, within a beeded roundel against a ground richly decorated with grotteschi including satyrs, harpies, fabulous beasts, dolphins, tablets and simulated Antique cameos with bust-length portraits of three men and one woman in profile, two of the men helmeted warriors, within an ochre band rim (slight flaking to enamels and ochre rim)
15 7/8 in. (40.7 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Farini is probably best known for his association with the seminal studio potter William De Morgan. For a dish in the Victoria & Albert Museum made for De Morgan in 1890 and painted by Farini (also signed with his monogram within a Star of David), see William Gaunt and M.D.E.
