All in Zeitschrift für Physik. Berlin: Julius Springer, 1925-1927. Volumes 31-43 only, 8° (222 x 147mm). Modern cloth-backed boards, volumes 33, 35 and 43 in black morocco slipcase. Provenance: Physikalische Gesellschaft in der DDR (2 stamps on most titles and a smaller one scattered throughout the volume).
FIRST EDITIONS OF THESE IMPORTANT PAPERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUANTUM MECHANICS, forming the theoretical basis for that science. Über quantentheoretische Kinematik und Mechanik is a follow-up to Heisenberg's significant 1925 paper on the quantum-theoretical reformulation of mechanics and kinematics, which had received a great deal of attention among physicists and mathematicians. Heisenberg's work formed part of the flurry of papers on quantum mechanics that followed the publication of 'Zur Quantenmechanik II,' the famous 'three-man' paper by Born, Heisenberg and Jordan that laid the foundations of quantum mechanics. Heisenberg received the Nobel Prize for physics in 1932 for his establishment of quantum mechanics.
The remaining volumes contain further important articles on quantum theory and related subjects, including additional works by Heisenberg, Jordan, Born, W. Pauli Jr., and J. Oppenheimer. A more detailed list is available on request. (13)
