Lot Essay

A very similar composition by Van Streek is in the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore. The artist must have been familiar with the church interior by Emanuel de Witte (1617-1692), who was Van Streek's teacher, of 1685 in the Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Brussels.
