With particularly elaborate strap metalwork, with three locks having scrolling hasps, the central hasp locating with a padlock, with a label to the inside Sir J Savile Lumley K.C.B. and in manuscript for Rufford Abbey
26½ in. (67 cm.) high; 54 in. (137 cm.) wide; 24 in. (61 cm.) deep
Provenance
John Savile Lumley-Savile, 2nd Baron Savile ( 1853-1931 ), society host and personal friend of King Edward V11.
He inherited Rufford Abbey, Nottinghamshire in 1896.
In 1938 the contents of Rufford Abbey were sold by Knight Frank Rutley in conjunction with Christie's in a 10 day sale.
