Captain Baron Haro van Hemert tot Dingshof (1879-1972), who on retirement rose to the rank of Major General, was in the Dutch Marine Corps stationed in Beijing from 1913 to 1923. He was Commander of the Netherlands Legation Guards Detachment, responsible for the security not only of the Dutch, but also of the German and Austro-Hungarian legations and enclaves. Captain Baron van Hemert had a great love of art and was a keen collector with a particular admiration for Chinese porcelain. Lotnumbers 64-67, as well as lotnumbers 72-75, 125, 149, 150, 277, 305, 354, 418, 422, 423 and 514 belong to his collection.

Kangxi
Painted to each side with a square panel enclosing a river landscape, one with two scholars, the other with a fisherman, all against a washed-blue cracked-ice pattern ground enriched with plum blossom heads picked out in white; and a plate decorated with a dragon emerging from crested waves in pursuit of the 'sacred pearl', rim frittings, 25.8 cm. diam.
