Lot Essay

For a similar dish, see D.S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, p. 64, pl. 40. The author points out that the decoration would have been completed at Jingdezhen, unlike others painted later in the 18th Century. A similar pair of plates was sold in our New York Rooms, The Hodroff Collection (part II), 23 January 2008, lot 404.
