Two ivory netsuke
19th Century
The first depicting a lady wearing a pot on her head, the servant behind her carrying several more, signed in an oval reserve Tomochika; the second depicting two yakko, the servants of prince Onoki, tying a saddled horse, the saddle inscribed Onoki, the saddle-cloth with the family crest and inscribed Haramoto, signed on an oval reserve Shomin and Kakihan
Sizes ranging from 4.6 cm. to 4.7 cm. high (2)

At the festival Nabe Kaburi held on the 1st of April at the temple of Tsukama, women who had comitted adultery were not allowed to participate unless they paid penance by carrying on a number of pots equalling the number of lovers she had on their heads.
