Lot Essay

The present lot is to be dated in the second half of the 1790's when the London born John Parker was a fashionable partraitist in Holland. The sitter was still in his teens when this portrait was painted. In his later professional life he worked as an agent of the Governmental Treasury at Zwolle. Parker also painted a portrait of his sister Henrietta Margaretha (1779-1834), recorded in the selection of the work of John Parker included in A.C.A.W. Baron van der Feltz, Charles Howard Hodges 1764-1837, 1982, no.P37, p.344.
