Lot Essay

In an interview in 1997 Guillermo Kuitca speaks about the maps--how he chose the cities, bought the actual folded maps:

I would compulsively buy these during any trip. If I traveled to New York, I would go to the Rand McNally store--they have maps from around the world, it's like a supermarket. I would buy four from Africa, two from Arabia, one from Brussels, twenty from Honduras, from Belfast--from any place. I bought them not to guide myself but to lose myself. I often thought the store salesman might be wondering where I was going.
