A pair of four fold screens, mounted with two sections of a handscroll in the style of Qiu Ying (1495-1522), early 19th century
each section painted in ink and colour on silk with continuous scenes of ladies involved in the various stages of cotton production, with numerous ladies before buildings, in gardens and in interiors picking, drying, sorting, washing, spinning, weaving and sewing, numerous children and attendants, helping, watching and playing in and around the tree strewn rocky enclosures -- each section 13¼in. x 73¾in. and 13¼in. x 85¾in. (33.6cm. x 187.3cm.) and (33.6cm. x 217.8cm.), signed Qiu Ying and with two seals, each section mounted in Japan as a four fold screen -- each panel 33½in. high (85.1cm.) and 23in. and 26in. wide (58.4cm. and 66cm.), each screen with wooden surrounds and metal mounts.
