A FINE PAIR OF D.B FLINTLOCK CARRIAGE PISTOLS BY P. BOND, 45 CORNHILL, LONDON
No. 5653, CIRCA 1800-1805
Each with browned twist barrels signed in full on the rib and stamped 'Ash' and 'Stubs' beneath the breeches, engraved breech tang, signed bevelled locks engraved with small bouquets, fitted with rollers and sliding safeties, and the interior mechanism comprehensively blued, figured walnut half-stock with serial numbers stamped beneath the locks, chequered butt with engraved steel cap, large trigger-guard decorated with a trophy-of-arms and with pineapple finial, the ramrod aperture capped by a plate with matching engraved finial, small escutcheon, original horn-tipped ramrod, finely engraved throughout, and the barrels retaining most of their original finish, Tower private proof marks.

Lot Essay

Philip Bond (died 1816), son of Edward Bond, was both gunmaker and sword cutler, as well as being a freeman of the Goldsmiths' Company. He had premises in Lombard Street and Cornhill, and held the offices of Viewer to the Hudson's Bay Company and Contractor to the Hon. East India Company.
