DANIEL, Samuel (1562-1619). The First Part of the Historie of England. London: N. Okes, 1612. 4° (217 x 164mm). Title with a woodcut architectural border, with the 2 final blanks (a little very minor spotting and discolouration, small hole in C4 and D1). Contemporary calf, gilt lozenge at centre of sides (a little rubbed). Provenance: a few childish pentrials on an endpaper 'To the Right Honourable the Earl of Kellye' and 'To the Right Honourable Lord Erl of Carbury'.
FIRST EDITION of Daniel's privately printed (apparently 200 copies were issued) first part of his History of England to be distributed among his friends 'for criticism before continuing his labours', (Pforzheimer). STC 6246; cf.Pforzheimer 242 (second edition).
