GEORGE IV (1762-1830), King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King of Hanover. Autograph letter signed to [William Charles] Keppel (later 4th Earl of Albemarle), Brighton, 11 April 1820, on mourning paper, 2½ pages, 4to (slightly worn, 2nd leaf laid down). A warm and effusive expression of his affection and attachment to his close friend, written shortly after his accession. 'It is only when we feel ourselves (perhaps) in a momentary difficulty that we can appeal to our real Friends ... You know my dear friend, that whenever I have the means or am aware of the opportunity of giving or granting I am not only ready but too happy to seize upon it'.
