ST GEORGE AND THE DRAGON, in an initial P, cutting from an ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM

[Verona, c.1490s]
110 x 108mm overall. Within initial-staves of pink with green and blue foliage the saint, holding his lance and shield, stands with the captive dragon at his side, on the verso one line written in black ink in a gothic bookhand below a four-line stave of red with music of square notation (cut out to black border around gold ground and laid down on vellum, abrasion and small losses to gold ground and halo, small smudges and a crease to initial stave, small dark mark at top of sky). Framed.
