Logau's entry is headed with the motto 'Amare volo, petiri nolo' (I want to love, not to be pursued), and ends with another, 'Non est mortale quod opto' (What I seek is not mortal); the inscription to the unidentified possessor of the book praises his moral excellence and mastery of 'the more elegant literature': 'Laudatâ Virtute & politiori literatura Fulgentissimo Domino Possessori, sic adfectum benivolum innuere & honorificum sui recordationem procurare voluit'.
The great epigrammist of the period of the Thirty Years' War, Logau had matriculated at the university of Altdorf on 6 July 1625, for the study of the liberal arts.
