A VICTORIAN FOUR-PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE-SERVICE WITH A PLATED KETTLE AND STAND EN SUITE
MARK OF JOHN SAMUEL HUNT, LONDON, 1849, THE KETTLE AND STAND WITH MARK OF ELKINGTON
Each piece pear shaped and with alternating panels of strapwork, comprising: a teapot and coffee-pot, each with cast kangaroo finial and ivory insulated handles, a cream jug and sugar-bowl, the plated kettle and stand similarly decorated and with a flower finial, the kettle and the base of the coffee-pot each engraved with an inscription, the base of the other pieces engraved with names, each piece marked underneath, the teapot and coffee-pot further marked inside cover, on handle and on finial, each piece further stamped 'HUNT & ROSKELL 4204', the teapot and coffee-pot also stamped 'LATE STORR & MORTIMER'

gross weight without kettle-on-stand 74 oz. (2,296 gr.)
The inscriptions each read 'Presented to Alfred Miller Munday Esqr by the undermentioned friends and fellow colonists as a small testimony of their appreciation of his many private virtues and of the integrity of his public conduct whilst filling the office of Colonial Secretary of South Australia Subscriptions limited to One Guinea' (5)
