Lot Essay

This image is understood to be the first lithographic representation of photography. It was commissioned by a friend of Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Sescau, to advertise his services as a photographer. Sescau was known to try and seduce his models, and so Toulouse-Lautrec humourously depicts the female figure leaving the room in horror.
