Lot Essay

The imposing figure of a bull with two recumbent cows are depicted standing in Whitehall Meadows: the Westgate of Canterbury can be seen in the distance. The size suggests that the picture was probably exhibited, either as Stock, shown at the Liverpool Academy, or the picture Cooper exhibited at the Society of British Artists, 1836, no. 251, entitled A Young Brindle Bull.

We are grateful to Kenneth Westwood for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
