A moon phase complication shows the waxing and waning of the moon as it rotates around the Earth. This mechanism is extremely precise with an annual variation of 11 minutes and 47 seconds, meaning that it takes 122 years and 45 days to accumulate an error of a single day. With reference to the lunar almanac tables, the double hand can be set precisely against the full-moon mark at the minute of the full moon.
Production of the reference 5015 began in 1995 and ended in 1999. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 235.
