AN ITALIAN MARMO ROSSO ANTICO MODEL OF SCIPIO'S TOMB
Mid-19th century, after the antique, adapted as an inkwell
The lid with palm-scrolled ends, the front edge inscribed CORNELIVS. CN. F. SCIPIO, the main body Roman Doric entablature above inscription, formerly with a bust of Scipio to lid (now lacking), mounted on a black marble plinth
