Lot Essay

Young Indonesian artist Pande Ketut Taman uses his work as a visual narrative to depict societal and human conditions. He uses stylised human figures to be his spokespeople. In this particular work, Tiga Petani (Three farmers), shows pencil markings on these characters, which resemble etchings in the layers of paint used, adapting his 3-dimensional influences onto the painting and adding a subtle dimension to the work. He includes what seems to be a frangipani flower into the composition, a common icon of his Balinese heritage.
