Lot Essay

Dudley North and his sister Anne North were the children of Sir Dudley North (1641-1691). Dudley, subsequently known as Dudley North of Glemham (1684-1729; see lot 52) served as MP for Suffolk and Oxford, and married Catherine, daughter of Elihu Yale (see lot 53). Anne was subsequently the wife of the Hon. Nicholas Herbert.
