Lot Essay

Womersley Hall is situated four miles from Pontefract, Yorkshire. It is linked back to the establishment of Pontefract Castle by Ilbert de Lacy in 1080. In the mid-18th Century the Estate came into the possession of the Hawke family, and with the the marriage of Cassandra Harvey-Hawke to the 4th Earl of Rosse in 1870, passed to the Rosse family of Birr, Ireland.
