Lot Essay

Ann, Countess of Dartmouth neé Lady Ann Finch (d.1751) was the daughter of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Aylesford and Elizabeth Banks. She married William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth in July 1700. The great-granddaughter of the sitter in the present portrait was Lady Charlotte Legge, wife of Charles Duncombe of Langford Hall.
