Lot Essay

The composition follows the picture in the Museum Willet-Holthuysen, Amsterdam, painted by Beert at the beginning of his career. Several other versions are known, for instance in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nürnberg and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Besançon.
