Each carved in miniature in imitation of a classical furniture form: comprising two root-form tables, five corner-leg tables with elaborately carved aprons, a rectangular kang table with carved apron and curved feet, and a scroll-form table with openwork top, finely carved with a conjoined leafy scroll framed on either side by a ruyi head

Lot Essay

Boxwood (huangyangmu) is a slow-growing evergreen found worldwide. The dense quality of the wood, with its creamy yellowish-brown coloration and tendency to develop a lustrous and richly colored patina, made it a favorite of carvers during the Qing dynasty, and small stands such as these would have been ideal for the display of snuff bottles or miniature works of art.
